A REVISED VERSION OF THE ROYAL OPERA HOUSE COAT OF ARMS COMMISSIONED BY SOMEONE DESIGN, 2008
Original coat of arms and typeface.
Brief: to create a clearer, simpler, less busy image to work at a range of sizes, redrawing animals to give them a little more life, while still retaining the classic quality of the original coat of arms.
Pencil Sketch for new coat of arms.
Image transferred to prepared boxwood block (reversed, using tracing paper) and partly engraved.
First proof printing.
Finished engraving.
Second version, created to work on dark backgrounds, yet still be a positive rather than negative image.
Old negative version and new positive version.
Comparison between the two new versions.
And examples of the new Coat of Arms in use.
